Bet of the Day 05/02/2013
Yesterday as I’m sure many of you will know was a very sad one, the world of horseracing lost a good one, as Darlan fell when seemingly cruising in the Champion Hurdle trial at Doncaster. The fall proved to be fatal and with it we lost a horse who had already achieved so much and who had so much more to give.
I’m sure there will be many people out there saying its an outrage and that this cruelty must stop, but to those I would say you just don’t get it, these animals are loved and cared for, the have the best stables, food and veterinary care, they are trained to be as fit as possible as well as being groomed and cleaned daily, no to speak out of turn but I imagine this is more than your average farm horse.
Anyway, on to today and we have racing in the UK from Sedgefield, Southwell, Market Rasen and over in Ireland there is a good card at Fairyhouse, which is exactly where we get our selection from.
The first race at Fairyhouse, (13.25) see ROCK CRITIC head the market at around 11/8 this is a cracking price for the Dermot Weld trained horse, carrying weight of 11-12 and off a mark of 139 he should have enough to see off MAKE YOUR MARK who is expected to open at around 13/8. ROCK CRITIC’s won his sole start over hurdles back in August at GALWAY and has good flat form winning 6/18 starts. He has always been thought of very highly and a trip of 2m looks to be ideal. The other horse of interest in this race is SEABASS trained by Ted Walsh and ridden today by son Ruby, this horse is a quality chaser and one which we at SportingOutlook think will win the Grand National come April, SEABASS finished third in the big race last year and today’s outing looks nothing more than a fitness test but Ruby getting on board instead of Katie Walsh is of some interest.
